More allergy testing...

This time, it was the kid's turn. All the kids. That's right, over 20 children (including a few over 15 ;) descended on the Naturopath's office yesterday. We had a testing party! :) It was very interesting, with a few surprises.

Here's how mine fared:

Justin is allergic to:

wheat (duh)
corn
dairy
and slightly intolerant of bananas.

Ethan is allergic to:

wheat
coconut
carrots (???)
and slightly intolerant of apples.

Becky was the best. She is only allergic to wheat and corn.

Michael was, surprisingly, the worst of mine. Here's his list:

wheat
soy
mushrooms
honey (???)
coconut
dairy
xanthan gum (which is used in gluten-free baking)
bananas
potatoes
onion
garlic

and slightly intolerant of

peppers
tuna/shellfish
ginger
dried beans

He also can't have the gluten-free pepperettes we've been buying from Zehrs. I was so surprised by his results, since he was the one that I figured would test fine for almost everything.

The other interesting thing was that all my siblings, and all my children, nieces and nephews tested highly allergic to wheat. Even my 6 month old nephew. How bizarre is that?? Must be a pretty strong gene in there somewhere.

So, it was a pretty interesting day. And, will make family gatherings a little more complicated...

I think we need a big chart with all the allergies listed on it or something... 'cause I can't be expected to remember everything!! :)

  1. "'cause I can't be expected to remember everything". And, why not? Aren't you the GRAND Puppet-Master? The controller of all things familial?

I guess "Mommy-Brain" combined with "Preggo-Brain" may have something to do with it.

  2. That, and it's so varied. I can remember that Tiana can't eat anything ;) but other than that... :)

  3. AUUUUUGH!

That is a tortured scream of agony! The way I've been racking my brain, trying to come up with recipes to feed people at Christmas and New Years, and now there are even MORE ingredients off the list!!! I can't function like this!

Is there any hope that if they stay off those foods for a while, they will be able to eat them again? Or are they off these things for life?

Poor, poor Michael! That's a long list of NO's for him.

  4. Well, I'm hoping that if they're off them long enough, they'll be able to add them back in eventually.

Although I'm not too sure about the soy/dairy, etc. I think sometimes those are lifetime allergies. But the carrots?? And coconut?? And onions and mushrooms?!?? Yeah, I'm hoping I'll be able to cook with those again. :D
